Safety Switch for Separating Protective Devices

Protective doors in enclosures that are used rarely are complex and expensive. Simply removing the door and unscrewing the fence is not allowed! SSP offers a solution: the SE field (Quick Removal Field) from SSP.

What criteria must a SE field (Quick Removal Field) meet?

  • Under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, it is already defined that fastening elements can only be opened or removed with tools. This ensures that only appropriately qualified or authorized personnel can open the separating protective device
  • Fastening elements must remain attached to the fixed separating protective device. Normal screws are therefore not permissible. This is to ensure that the fastening elements cannot be lost
  • Separating protective devices must not remain in the protective position after the fastening elements are loosened. This ensures that a protective device is always properly secured, and the position is clearly visible
  • Separating protective devices that cannot be easily moved or transported by hand must be equipped with appropriate fastening devices for transport using a lifting device, or there must be provisions for such an installation

Further guidelines can be found in DIN EN ISO 12100-2011-03 and DIN EN ISO 14120, which address the topic of separating protective devices.
Another point is the frequency of access. According to DIN EN ISO 14120, a fixed, separating protective device is only permissible if the foreseeable frequency of access is rare (e.g., less than once a week) and reattaching is simple, with removal and reinstallation being carried out within a safe working system.
